Canonical Manager
Understand canonical URLs, safe defaults and when an exact override is appropriate.
RecommendedComponent 1.0.0Difficulty: Easy
Keep one preferred URL signal for pages and protect pagination from invalid canonical output.
Canonical in one sentence
A canonical tells search engines: “When several URLs are similar, this is the preferred main URL.”
How HuntBee works
OpenCart already supplies canonical information for many normal pages. HuntBee does not needlessly replace everything. It can fill gaps, protect invalid pagination situations and allow exact custom overrides where truly required.

Settings
| Setting | What it means | Recommended for beginners | Change it when… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Status | Enables Canonical Manager. | Enabled. | Only disable temporarily for conflict diagnosis. |
| Custom Canonical Rules | Map an exact normalized browser URL (including query where relevant) to a chosen canonical target. | Leave empty unless you have a specific duplicate-URL case you understand. | A real page needs a deliberate canonical override. |
Custom rule example
If a campaign/filter URL must remain accessible but should consolidate to a clean landing URL, a deliberate exact rule may be appropriate. Do not use broad guesses; canonicalisation should describe the actual preferred equivalent page.
Common mistake
Use exact overrides sparinglyDo not point unrelated pages to one popular product/category just to “send SEO value.” A canonical is for equivalent or strongly duplicate content, not a redirect and not a ranking trick.
How to check
- Open the public page.
- View page source or developer tools.
- Find the canonical link element.
- Confirm it is a valid preferred URL for that exact page context.
- Test pagination/filter cases you actually use.
