Bing Webmaster Tools is where you manage Bing and Microsoft Search indexing. Bing is also the primary IndexNow endpoint — when you submit URLs via IndexNow from this extension, they go to Bing first, and Bing shares the data with other participating engines.
Step 1: Verify Your Site
- Go to Bing Webmaster Tools and sign in with a Microsoft account
- Click Add a Site and enter your store URL
- Choose a verification method:
- XML file — upload to your web root
- Meta tag — add to your theme header
- Auto-verify via Google Search Console — if GSC is already verified, Bing can import that verification automatically (easiest option)
- Complete verification
Step 2: Submit Your Sitemap
- In Bing Webmaster Tools, select your site
- Go to Sitemaps in the left navigation
- Click Submit Sitemap and enter:
https://yourstore.com/sitemap_index.xml - Click Submit
Step 3: Verify IndexNow Is Working
When you configure IndexNow in this extension, the API key works directly with Bing.
- In this extension’s admin, use the Validate Key button to confirm the key file is accessible
- Trigger the cron once manually by visiting the cron URL in your browser
- Check the IndexNow dashboard in the extension admin for success responses
- Optionally, check Configure My Site → IndexNow in Bing Webmaster Tools to see submission history from Bing’s side
Bing Webmaster Tools Features to Monitor
| Feature | What It Does |
|---|---|
| URL Submission | Manually submit individual URLs for immediate crawling |
| Crawl Control | Set when Bing crawls your site (avoid peak shopping hours) |
| Site Explorer | Browse all pages Bing has indexed for your site |
| SEO Reports | Automated checks: missing meta descriptions, slow pages, mobile issues |
| IndexNow | View IndexNow submission history and any error responses |
| Backlinks | Inbound link data |
💡 Tip: Bing’s market share is significant, especially in English-speaking markets and through DuckDuckGo (which uses Bing as a data source). Combined with Yandex and Naver, IndexNow through Bing covers a meaningful share of global search beyond Google.
